Excellent authentic indian food. They have everything you would want. I also have a fantastic lunch buffet. A must stop if you're in the santa barbara area and wanting indian food.

Best Indian food in SB! When I lived in SB my husband and I used to go twice a week. Love their lunch buffet and chai tea!

Uggghhh I did not like this food at all. If you are not Indian or have not had good Indian food - then you may like this. If you are an Indian or have had good Indian food then this place sucks! I had a vegetarian combo and my husband got a non-vegeterian combo. The food was a lot but sucked. The naans lacked salt. There was no distinction between Chapati and Naan. They both looked the same and tasted bland. We also had upset stomachs the next day. The service was alright. I will not be coming back here.

This is my first Yelp review, I didn't feel need for it until now. I couldn't resist myself to write this review for the worst experience I had at Flavor of India. I could have ignored it, the aftermath behavior made me write this review. I went to Flavor of India Buffet after reading reviews and hearing lot about Navdip(the owner). I was impressed the way everyone had praised the owner, as I also come from the same region where he belongs. On the Christmas day me and my wife went to have the lunch buffet, after eating the green paste(saag) and chicken tikes masala with naan my wife took out a half inch metal screw from her mouth. We are foodie, we have had bad food but never had a screw in the food ever. It was such a shocking moment for us, I immediately contacted the server. Everyone came to see it including Navdip(the owner) took the screw from us. No one showed up for a few minutes, I stopped eating the food as I had no desire to eat anymore. Navdip came back and said what food we found it in. My wife responded, it was either chicken tikka masala or green paste(sasg). Again he went and said nothing. Some of you who doesn't know what Saag(green paste) is, it is a good source of Iron not actual Iron(Screw). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sa… We were sitting there like stupid and decided to leave. I was still trying not to make a big deal and asked Navdip where did the screw came from. He replied it was not from inside or machines, it came from outside. He also added he will use cameras to find out. In his response, he sounded like we had brought from outside as he didn't even apologized. None of them even asked my wife if she was ok and if we need anything else. We could have called the Food Administration to report the incident, instead we were nice enough to support our Indian brother. It was disgusting and such an embarrassment. I would suggest you to think twice before you enter Flavor of India. Now I know why the reviewers say "I wish there was a ZERO star".

My brother and I enjoyed our dinner at Flavor of India very much. We ordered Chicken Saag and Lamb Korma...both were delicious. We both have excellent Indian restaurants in our home towns that we frequent, and this food is as good as we get back home. They offer "mild", "medium" and "spicy"...we went with "medium". The restaurant is clean and comfortable (casual), and the service is fast and friendly. I can confidently recommend this spot for a great Indian dinner.

I dont claim to be an Indian food expert but I know I really REALLY like Flavor of India. Ive tried several others in Santa Barbara and they are all pretty good but I definitely like Flavor of India the best. In particular I like the Chicken Tika Masala and Naverdon Korma with Garlic Naan.

Beef Naan = 5 Fried Onion Rings = 5 Chicken Tikka Masala = 5 (bf loved it) Lamb Korma = 4.5 (server recommended it to me, said it was fantastic and that i would enjoy it more than the curries) Service = 5 Overall = 4.5 wish we had tried the samosas... next time!

Ordered takeout here twice this week and it is the best Indian food I've ever had! The atmosphere looks inviting too but unfortunately I have a young baby so I do not get to enjoy the restaurant itself. Love the Navratan Korma and Shahi Paneer. The only negative was the naan but no big deal since the food was soooo good!!!

By far the best Indian in Santa Barbara! I love this place and am always sad when I go somewhere else. They are very friendly and helpful. Even when it is the buffet, a cheap all you can eat quick lunch, they continue to bring fresh naan and give great table service. I dream of their aloo gobhi and bengan bharta! Their mint/cilantro spicy sauce is to die for! Huge fan!

We biked 2 miles to this restaurant and it was totally worth it. The place is little out of the way and unassuming but the food is pretty authentic. Although the buffet spread is small compared to some of the other Indian buffets, the simplicity of the sumptuous food easily wins you over. The service was slow but probably because they got really busy during lunch hours. If you are in SB and craving then this is the place to go.

First review for this place, even though I have probably eaten here 30 times over the years. I don't have much to say, other than the fact that I have spent over three months in India itself, and that Flavor of India in Santa Barbara remains my favorite in S.B. by a long shot. This is a complete experience with wonderful staff, wonderful food, and fair prices. Here is a tip for those who like their Indian food spicy, but might be sharing dishes with others who have a preference for mild spice. The staff will bring you a shaker of chili powder to up it a notch. All you have to do is ask! My highest recommendation.

Very authentic and tasty Indian food. Rated like home cooked meal. The food was flavorful as promised without the excessive use of chillies.

Their Lunch buffet is outstanding for the price. I wish I knew about this sooner!

I came here with my Lil Sis to eat the lunch buffet and I was kind of surprised it was just one serving buffet bar to consist of the entrees, sides and rice pudding but it was well worth the price. Naan bread and ice water were served to us and we helped ourselves to two plates of delicious Indian food. It was my second time here and would come back again.

My favorite Indian food in SB. Prices are excellent, lunch and dinner specials are amazing. Service is attentive and friendly. The chutneys are super good. Every meal I've had there is outstanding. My favorite would have to be Lamb Vindaloo dinner plate with lentils, raita, moong daal, jasmine rice. Yummy Dankness!

Loved this place! From the street it looks like a hole in the wall type of restaurant but a closer look reveals a real gem! The food is really good and the decorations inside are so beautiful! I went as a tourist with my friend so I can't really base this review on anything except my one visit. The food was awesome and service was great. The only huge set back I would say is that finding parking is a monster, good luck! They have parking in the back which fits 8 cars if that! But I would still check this place out if you're in the mood for amazing Indian food.

We were travelling during holidays and were craving indian food. Since reviews were so good, we thought why not. I normally check reviews by indians as they tend to be correct about their food and there were mix reviews, some gave one star and some 5 stars! I just cannot believe how you can call their food tasty. We were 5-6 of us and each one ordered the thalis for dinner each for around 17.50 or so. What a waste of food and money I would say. There was a lot of food, if it was tasty we would've perhaps finished but all the curries were so pasty that couple of spoons from each dish spoiled our appetite. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone.

Best best best out there. We moved to Ventura and still go back to Santa Barbara for their flavors. GO FOR THE LUNCH BUFFET!! At a great price, it is fresh, delicious, and they have yummy rice pudding as dessert! Plus, the smiles and great service make it a very pleasant dining experience! My family loves Flavor of India.

They have a decent lunch buffet here with all the usuals. They also have a nice patio that is dog friendly. Great service too, we came in 10 mins before lunch was over and they made sure we had plenty of good food before the kitchen closed.

We are from Scotland where there is some wonderful Indian cooking. This could not hold a candle to any but the most mediocre restaurants, but from my experience the overall quality of Indian restaurants in the US isn't that amazing. Anyway, this place was pretty cool. The food was a lot better than we were expecting, properly spiced, with a variety of good dishes and the server took care to make sure I didn't have any dairy, giving me tofu instead of paneer and not putting ghee on my naan. The house wine was really nice and great value, as was the overall meal. If this place was a few thousand miles north east then I'd give it two stars, I am sure they could do far better, but it was certainly a nice surprise and we were really glad it was on the doorstep of our hotel.

My waiter with the turban was nice and the setting too was nice but I'd like to hear some Bollywood music or something better. Monkey ordered a few things but it was not really spicy as asked. I never had the onion bhaji before so it was my first time and come to realize it's like onion rings but it was poorly done as it was the thinnest onion inside to the point where you can't even taste it. Like why call it an Onion Bhaji if there is not going to be any onions in it?? The beer was alright for a light IPA but I'm a dark strong beer person and they didn't have any. Don't think I'll be coming back here as I can go to any store around town and pick up a easy microwavable Indian and still taste good and cheap.

If you've ever eaten Indian food outside of California then this place is a two. If your experience of the Worlds Greatest Food is limited to the West Coast then its a 4. Nice set up, good staff. The onion bhaji was the worst I've ever had & more like onion rings chopped into pieces. The food was ok. I asked for extra extra spicy & it was about average which is good for West Coast. I probably won't be back as I can do much better at home but if you've had limited experience of Indian food then definitely try this place.

Wow! I was happy to find this place. The eggplant was nice and spicy. The sauce for the chicken korma was great except the chicken was a tad on the dry side. It seemed to be mostly white meat which I'm not a big fan of anyway. Service was great. Would definitely go back and try some other dishes.

This is the restaurant that made me fall in love with indian food! By far the best indian in Santa Barbara that I have experienced thus far. Although the lunch buffet is positively delicious as well as reasonably priced, I highly recommend eating at india house for dinner when you can experience all of their delicious options. Their staff is friendly and quick to boot.

One of my friends that always cooks our entire group of friends Indian food recommended this place to us as her family is aquainted with the owners. This was mine and my boyfriend's first time eating at a real Indian food restaurant (the only other thing we've tried is Naan stop, so we really wanted to try something a little nicer). We decided we wanted to try something different than the same old stuff we always get so we picked some random things off the menu that sounded tasty. I can't recall the names of them, but based on what we chose, I would say go for anything that they have featured on their menu. The dinner combos are a great deal because you get a lot of sides, but next time we might try combining a few entrees and rice. My boyfriend got one of the chicken dishes that is cooked with garlic, and it was completely flavorful and fantastic. He also got tandoori chicken which was absolute perfection. I usually like the more vegetarian dishes, and I enjoyed all of the extra dishes that came with the combo. The naan was delish too. I regretted not trying the Mango Lassi when I saw a couple of them walk by... sadface. To me, this place seemed really homemade.. I can understand why my friend recommended it. The service was also awesome and everyone was super nice. My boyfriend would take only 3 sips of his lemonade before it got refilled. Oh and the medium spiciness was perfect for me... but my boyfriend who likes REALLY spicy things would have preferred to get the spicy.. so keep that in mind when picking out your level of heat. Once I try some of the other Indian restaurants around, I may provide an update. This place seriously rocks tho.. and I'm already craving it again. Only thing I was sad about was that there was no Aloo Mutter on the menu :(

Wow - best Indian food I've had in a while! We got the veggie pakoras to start with, and they were excellent. The shahi paneer was also amazing - though we'd ordered it medium spicy and it came mild. The dhal makhani was pretty good. And the mango lassis were great. The service was very prompt and the staff super friendly. I can't wait to go back again soon!

We LOVED the food here. Only wish they could open a branch in Pasadena! We started with a Mango Lassi that was delicious, then went for various vegetarian dishes and basmati rice with peas. Everything was great. I also asked for some tamarind sauce which they brought immediately. Definitely a winner for $35 for two! Wish I could go there again tonight.

This is the worst Indian food I've ever had!!! All the vegetarian and meat dishes looked the same(RED). The meat dishes were completely over cooked. I am Indian & this is a disgrace to our culture! I would never recommend this place to anyone. Shit is shit, but this takes the cake!!!

Rating for lunch buffet: 4/5 Rating for dinner: 3.5/5 Lunch buffet: This is pretty much the best Indian lunch buffet in Santa Barbara. Comes out to about 10/person (including tip and tax), which is pretty much standard everywhere. The food is excellent and includes the standards for "Indian restaurant in America" a.k.a. unlimited naan and delicious chicken tikki masaala. There are also some other dishes that aren't quite as standard, but are amazing as well. The service is pretty fast, the people are friendly, and the location/venue is pretty nice. Parking is a little bit hard to find, but there's a church near the Montessori school or the backalleys. Dinner: The dinner is more expensive and the portions aren't overly generous. The food is still very good, but as far as Indian restaurants go the overall value is definitely not quite up to their buffet. I'd recommended trying something other than chicken tikki masaala as this restaurant is actually owned by Indians who cook genuine Indian food (I remember once the entire place was closed for a month because the family that owned it had returned to India for a family wedding. It was a sad month for me :(, but good for them!). tip: watch out for minimum days for the local high schools (if they still get out at 12pm) - it was pretty popular to go to their lunch buffet on minimum days, so it would get pretty crowded

Where to begin? Perfect warm meal on rainy days, finals week, or any time you run out of groceries (wink, wink)= Navratan Korma (medium spicy) with Peshwari Naan (or plain naan) on a bed of aromatic Basmati rice! The vegetable samosas are great (put some of the spicy green, minty sauce or sweet apricot chutney to take it to the next level!)- but I think they have gotten smaller in size from what I remember. The staff are always caring and polite, very consistent, and seem genuinely interested in making their customers' restaurant experience excellent- even treat their clientele to special, free desserts! Warm atmosphere overall. Happy this place exists in Santa Barbara.

This place is EPIC!!! The $9.95 lunch buffet is the only way to go! The food quality and service are fantastic! It has a small cozy feel, but always has plenty of tables available. I particularly love the chicken tikka masala and rice pudding. Enjoy!

Sophia W. made us get more Indian food our last day in S.B.---what more to celebrate our pathetic lives other than more binge eating? Can't go wrong with an Indian lunch buffet before a 7mi. hike. $8 at 11am. all you can eat. I had 3 plates. They were looking at me funny. Unlimited Naan, cauliflower potato, chickpeas, chicken korma, rice, Saag paneer, etc. It would have been a full 5 stars, but I have been to Indian buffets that give you samosas. And the Saag paneer didn't have chuncks of cheese in it; it was just creamy. Service was friendly. It was a beautiful day, so we sat outside on the patio. Would definitely come here again given the chance.

I tried the bengan bartha, I was not that pleased.. Also I believe the hours are wrong on yelp, they close at 9:30 pm. The garlic naan had tooo much garlic on it.. And I think it was really pricey. My friends that went with me felt that the food is decent.

The sauces aren't really that great and the chicken and vegetables don't mix well. Also the chai tea is severely watered down. I've had waaay better chicken makani and palak paneer.

Extremely disappointed. Looked up the reviews and decided to go to eat food here. The service was extremely lousy and food wasn't great except navratna karma. The biryani was a mess and so were other curries. The server didn't pay attention to our needs and we had to keep on calling them for every small thing. I will not recommend this place.

I'm really not sure why none of the India food places in the Bay Area or even ones I've visited in India can beat Flavor of India in SB. I mean, SB is not very diverse. There are a lot of Indians in the Bay Area and of course in India but I just haven't found a winner..except for F of I. My (ex) roommate and I used to hit this place up minimum twice a week. Major plus: they deliver. My regular was the Chicken Korma but the lamb dishes are excellent. Ask for chef's choice of the moment for the lamb. Chicken Korma is rich and flavorful..but my tummy didn't hurt after eating it unlike most creamy things. I really wish I could order some right now. MMM.

Okay, this as good as it gets for someone who is new to Indian food (my simple disclaimer). However, I got some takeout here, and it was FABULOUS! I tried it once before, doing the combinations. This was even better. Here is what I did this time (for three people, newbies): Chicken Curry Chicken Tikka Masala Rice with carrots and beans and two orders of Naan (bread). We ordered MILD (out of mild, medium, and spicy). We are lightweights with spice. Plenty of food for three. EXCELLENT! The chicken was outstanding, and there was a green, spicy side sauce that was exceptionally tasty. So, there you go. GOOD food. Jump on. (BTW, both times I went, the restaurant was packed. This must be a popular place with people that know something from prior experience.) Good eatin'

Had dinner with my recent college grad son and two of his friends from school. We all agreed that the chicken tikka, saag Paneer, and chana we all carefully prepared and tasty. The garlic naan Be careful in asking for extra spicy. Medium hot is still plenty. Prices are very reasonable. We will be back.

This review is not about the food. The food here is really good. This review is about the customer service here, which seems to be getting worse and worse. It's sad to see a favorite restaurant in decline. Tonight, I went to Flavor of India for what was probably my 50th time in the five years since I have discovered it. In all this time, I almost always get the same thing: the lamb curry. I usually order it "spicy", which means it has a great kick that accentuates the flavor nicely. Tonight, I went here with my girlfriend and her dad. I ordered the lamb curry "spicy" as per usual. When our food came, I took a bite and almost screamed: it was like I'd bitten into a hot coal. Seriously, I almost had trouble breathing, it was so fucking spicy. There I was, a grown man on the verge of tears, chugging beer and water just to get my mouth to stop hurting. Yeah, I know; it's a funny image. Unless you're the poor hapless soul who feels like he just got maced in the middle of a fine dining establishment. When I recovered, I wiped the tears from my eyes and summoned the waiter and I said: this is way too spicy. I can't eat it. Is there any way I can get a less-spicy version? Here's where things really got stupid. The guy, who I think is also the owner, just stared at me like I'd asked him to serve me his firstborn child on a spit. i swear, he was livid. He said: "did you order it?" I said "yes". He stood silently for a moment longer, then said "oh." I started to feel stupid, and I said "you know what? Forget it. I DID order it. Never mind, I'll just eat some of my girlfriend's food." The intention, of course, was never to go there again. That would show him. He nodded and walked away, like one of those snooty French waiters you see in movies, who thinks he's the Pope and you're his subject. Except that all this guy blessed me with was a plate full of food that I couldn't eat and what felt like bleeding ulcers on the roof of my mouth. I went up to say something to him afterward, but he was on the phone and ignored me completely. Not wanting to cause a scene, I just... left. After paying a $70 tab, of course. Then, when I got home and grabbed some CRACKERS to eat because I was so hungry after my "dinner" at Flavor of India, I started regretting it all: not demanding a new dish, not waiting until he finished with his phone call to talk to him, not flat-out refusing to pay for something I couldn't eat. So I decided to contact them and let them know about my experience. If this guy wasn't the owner, then the owner should at least know they've lost a customer, and why. I filled out the form on their website, pressed the button and... nothing. The form doesn't work. So I logged onto Yelp. Dear Flavor of India, if you're reading this: you have humiliated--and lost--a good customer. I looked over my credit card statement, and I have spent well over two thousand dollars in your restaurant in 2011. Multiply that by five, for the five years I've been going to your place. I hope winning your moral battle over that $10 plate of lamb curry was worth it. Spend that $10 wisely. If anyone wants Indian food in Santa Barbara, might I suggest: Spice Avenue (on State St. between Figueroa and Carillo) or: All India Cafe (on State and Haley - they DELIVER)

Went to this restaurant based on yelp recommendations. We were not disappointed. Very good food (except for the Naan which was a little bland), and excellent service. Best spinach and paneer ever!

Many years ago, I used to come here for the lunch buffet before summer camp. I recently came here twice, and forgot just how delicious this place is! The first time was for dinner. I had the lamb curry and it was cooked to perfection; tender and flavorful. The second was for the lunch buffet, and oh what a great deal it was! I stuffed myself with delicious tikka masala, soft fluffy naan, basmati rice, lentils and potatoes and chicken. And don't forget the rice pudding and yogurt! For the price ($7.95) it doesn't get much better. I'll definitely be back!

This not only the best indian restaurant in town, it's one of my favorite restaurants in SB period. It is purely a family affair, evidenced by them shutting down for a few weeks once due to attending a wedding in India! I go here because the food is great, the presentation is beautiful, the service is exceptional and most importantly, the atmosphere is laid back and not posh like other state street venues. The focus is really on the food and the service here. I am a vegetarian so I can't comment on the meat dishes, but my favorite things to get are veg samosas (we LOVE the mint sauce), the "royal" navratan korma (creamy, varied, and perfectly spices) and bottomless chai tea....now that is my idea of some comfort food!

Flavor of India is my favorite Indian food in town. We've eaten there a handful of times. The Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Korma are absolutely delicious! We have never had to wait more than a few minutes to be seated. Service has always been great! It's hard for us to eat at another Indian establishment with food this great!

The food here is good. like, really good. eating on the patio with some wine is always a pleasant experience and their service is excellent. but the main reason for my 5 star review is that this is literally the only indian restaurant i have ever been to that takes special care to cater to the allergy needs of its clientele. i know that sounds weird, but i have an allergy to nuts (haha) and have gotten sick from indian food more times than i can count. i used to get the chicken tikka masala here and they would not only make it without nuts, but would put raisins in it to substitute the flavor. i was always totally confident that i wouldnt leave this restaurant with food poisoning, which is way more than i can say about any other indian place. ive basically started ordering palak paneer and raita everywhere, but good god i want some curry! i wish this restaurant were in long beach.

I am obsessed with cauliflower AND I have an affinity for wilted romaine. This place always has a cauliflower dish (every time I've been, at least) in their buffet, and fresh crisp un-wilted romaine. I take their daal, their saag, and their aloo and dump it on the salad and stir it all together, most unceremoniously, and am in heaven. The flavors and textures are great, the service is just that side of over attentive, and the price is right.

3.5! Yelped somewhere to grab dinner near my hotel and Flavor of India was close by. I did have to turn around on some side street because I almost missed it. It wasn't busy, so I easily parked in the front on the st. I was the only customer and I had second thoughts when thinking about the food sitting there stewing all day. I've only had Indian food once before and wanted to try different things, so I went with the combination dinner and chose the chicken tikka masala. The food came out fast and was served on a metal cafeteria tray. They also brought out hot sauces by request. The combo came with rice, lentils, raita-yogurt with pieces of veggies and a vegetarian dish with peas and homemade cheese and a big piece of naan. The food was nice and hot! The chicken was a bit dry from stewing all day, but the sauce was awesome! Nice and rich and creamy! The "cheese" with the peas seemed more like a soft tofu, then what I was expecting. The flavors seemed a bit toned down in regards to the spices and heat; maybe for the milder tastes of Americans. The yogurt was a nice contrast to the flavors and is there to help with the heat of the spices, which I didn't encounter. There were just a few slivers of carrots and celery I believe. I probably should have just got the salad. The naan was nice and fresh from the tandoor (oven). The server was very attentive and filled my water glass up every time I took a sip almost. I did feel a little awkward with him standing right to the side a few tables down where I could see him in the corner of my eye waiting to fill my water. Even though I was stuffed, I still wanted dessert and decided to get the rice pudding, so I could have something to snack on back in my hotel room. I asked him about the garam something-? They're fried milk balls I believe served in a syrup. He kept suggesting those, even though I said the rice pudding, so I decided to be adventurous and got them to go. I realized after paying that it was because they were a pricier dessert of course that it was suggested. I noticed the prices were a lot cheaper on-line and the menu was more expensive and the paper menu he gave me to keep was more than the restaurant menu. I didn't say anything though, even though my total would have ended up $5 less. Total was $20+ with tip. A lot more than I wanted to spend, but very tasty and filling! Unfortunately the balls for dessert $2 a pop in the syrup were not good at all. They weren't fresh and after one bite ended up in my hotel room's trash. Sad! :( Should have went with the rice pudding! All in all, very tasty and after reading other reviews, I would suggest getting your money's worth at the lunch buffet, which is usually done at most Indian places. I will for sure be eating some Indian food again, but if I'm in the SB area, I'll try some other places out!

I tried the lunch buffet here. I was expecting a lot better because of all the good reviews, but the chicken tikka was really dry and the naan somewhat burnt in spots. The place was bustling tho, with almost every table taken. The servers were really attentive, offering more naan even tho we still had some on the table.

The food isn't bad, it just isn't all that and a bag of chips, is what i'm saying. I much prefer Spice avenue downtown where you can people watch and the food is great.

REAL Indian cuisine with GREAT service. The food itself was very much how indian food tastes...intense flavors. The flavors were super strong and very different from the Americanized Indian food that I am usually used to. 1.) Appetizer Sampler: Samosa was good and was JAMMED to the top with all the filling. The onion ring-ish things were good but a tad salty. The lamb sausage thing was very very flavorful and soft. The tandoori chicken was good too. 2.) Lamb Vindaloo/Chicken Tikka Masala Combo Plate: The raita was very tangy and very different from what I used to have, but was good! The rice was of course good. The Lamb vindaloo and chicken tikka masala was more focused on the meats then the sauce. I hafta say I'm more of a thick sauce girl who like to dips her naan in it. But these curries were more focused on the meat with a thinner sauce. But they were extremely flavorful and tender. The paneer matar that came with it was awesome. The paneer was VERY soft and light. 3.) Naan: YUMMY! Very fresh and doughy/soft but very good taste to it. I liked this place's service and the food, but I prefer more saucier sauces. But it was great and they're SO nice here! AWESOME service.

I don't understand why this place keeps getting great reviews and winning all the "Best Of" contests through The Independent. I went there for the first time in 1993 with my then-girlfriend Anfisa Miasnikov and her then 8-month old baby Solange. I was so in love with Anfisa that I really didn't care that the buffet we had was pretty mediocre (at best). Everything was more or less cold, bland, and bore little resemblance to authentic Indian food; rather, it seemed created for the American palate, and more to the point, for people who really don't know what authentic Indian food is supposed to taste like. I just don't understand.

The tandoori paneer tasted awful. All of the dishes tasted the same. The food was like a mish mash of flavors.

Best Indian in Santa Barbara. Friendly service and delicious food. Less expensive with better food and service than the options on lower State. The lamb saag is particularly good. Food can be a bit inconsistantly spiced (sometimes "spicy" comes out super hot, sometimes not at all), but is always flavorful and satisfying.

This was my first try at Indian food and I might say it was mighty good. I had the Chicken Tikka Misala. My lover had the Lamb Curry. Both quite good. I would opt out of the big platter combos and go straight for their main dishes. I didn't like the lentils.

ok food. but terrible service for buffet. asked for extra naan. the waiter did not show up. ask for water he said yes and water was in front of him, but never returned to our table. before we could finish, the cheque was on our table. Felt unwelcomed.

Oh Flavor of India you are like a second home to me. I love this restaurant for the following reasons: 1. The lunch buffet is fantastic. It's always stocked with rita, salad, rice, lentils, saag, a chicken dish (either tikka masala or korma), a vegetarian special, tandoori chicken and rice pudding. All of these dishes are delicious. 2. The service is great. I love all the people who work at Flavor because they are nice, helpful and remember you. You will be well taken care of if you come here. 3. Unlimited naan during lunch. 4. Their soda, especially their coke, is for some reason way better than most restaurants. I honestly don't know what they do, but it's good. 5. Pretty cheap (lunch buffet) for how much food you could potentially eat. I can't tell you how many lunches I've been to at this restaurant, but I do know that every time was well worth it.

Like indian food? Enjoy a buffett? Near upper state Street in Santa Barbara? Give Flavor of India a try. Some very good food here, in particular their tandoori chicken. There naan bread is some of the best I've had, too. Expect to pay $10 a person. If you like buffett, come during lunchtime to sample some of their many delicious choices. It is not the newest place in town, nor is it the cleanest. Parking is a drag as well. Nevertheless, Flavor of India is a nice place for a quick bite when you don't want fast food.

Was happy to find Indian food while visiting SB. Unfortunately we did not find good Indian food. The atmosphere was warm and the staff was very friendly. When we were seated we were given 2 papadums to start. They were ok but a bit charred on the edge. We ordered the Vegetarian Delight with Saag Paneer and Aloo Ghobi. It was served with dal, rice, naan and raita. We also ordered Bengan Barta, rice and mango lassis. The Saag was ok, the aloo ghobi was very mild but tasty, the dal was good, the raita was ok with lots of carrots (?) and pepper, the naan was ok , the bengan barta was very bland-my dinner partner described it as ketchup with lumps, the lassis were watery. The biggest problem for us was the rice. It was flavorless and sticky. Good Indian basmati rice is aromatic and fluffy-never sticky. It is sometimes spiced with cumin, bay and cardamom. This rice was terrible. We didn't finish it or the bengan barta. We will not return.

I would agree with the general consensus that this is the best Indian food in SB. That's b/c SB doesn't have good options. This place blows compared to what I used to get delivered in L.A. -- in terms of quality, quantity and price. I have learned to accept the tradeoff of mediocre Indian for the pleasure of living in SB. I pay more and I usually get less. If you're looking for Indian in SB, this place is going to be it. Have an exotic beer and enjoy yourself, or order it to go and make your own basmati at home.

This is the best Indian food out there. Period. The chai is good. It's not overbearing and I can actually enjoy it without feeling like I'm consuming pure cream. The lunch buffet is bargain. It's a small restaurant, so their available dishes make sense (they usually have three main dishes). The service is the absolute best. The owners are so friendly and every time we go in, they seat us and always ask how we're doing. And, your water glass will never go empty. The food itself? My favorite. Of course, I compare all Indian restaurants to this one, so this particular place is my yardstick (unlike other reviews who seem to think that any Indian restaurant in the "west' isn't worthy of being considered good and consider their experiences outside of California to be better than what we have here).

We had a nice dinner here. Great service even thought the place was packed. Reasonable prices, good food. I'd go again for sure!

My favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara so far! My husband and I have gone on a few date nights here. Amazing vegetarian (and non vegie) meals. AND always fantastic, kind, and fast service even when they are packed during the weekends! Have been to two other local Indian restaurants and they don't even compare.

i've only been to a few indian restaurants, but none have impressed me like flavor of india in santa barbara! my friends took me there when i went up to visit them for the first time, and i instantly fell in love... with their traditional metal serving trays! the food was awesome too, of course, perfectly proportioned. i get something different every time and always from their combination section: vegetarian delight (the cauliflower dish is very delicious), chicken tandoori, chicken curry, and chicken tiki masala. i go for the combination dinners because i'm unfamiliar with indian dishes, so i feel like they've chosen everything for me already! i tried their rice pudding and it was ok. can't say it was memorable, though it's been about 2 years ago since. on my most recent trips, my friend introduced me to mango lassi and i fell in love. the rest, as they say, is history.

I come here for the lunch buffet probably once a week. For anybody intimidated by Indian food because of the spicy flavors, don't worry. The food here is fantastic and affordable. Very flavorful, just not spicy.

had it at home after picking up on 4th of july. I mean what else says America than some chicken Tika? food was great.. i like it alot. Its not like walking on pioneer in Artesia, but its great.

I heard about their lunch buffet for $8.95 so I decided to try it out. I have to admit I was really disappointed in the amount of options. They only had salad, yogurt (plus mint + some other sauce), rice, some lentil dish, tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, some spinach dish, and a dish with potatoes and eggplants. I tried a little bit of everything at first, but in the end decided just to stick with rice, salad, and chicken tikka masala. Like some other Yelper said, the tandoori was really dry, but the chicken tikka was pretty good. I pretty much stuffed myself with that and the garlic naan (which is very fresh). I don't know if I'd come back though considering they didn't have many choices.

I was never impressed with this place in years past, then I ate here last week and it made me super sick. No thanks.

Flavor of India is my weekly lunch stop. They have a small but tasty buffet that is well worth the price of 8.95! Their lunch is the busiest and opens from 11am-3pm. I usually sit in their cute outdoor patio and eat the buffet and enjoy the beautiful days of Santa Barbara. I love their chicken tikka masala, spinach, eggplant, lentils, and best of all aloo gobi (cauliflower and potatoes)! Their rice pudding is not my favorite, mostly because there is too much rice and it is not as creamy as I would like it to be. They give all you can eat naan bread with your buffet plate. I usually drink their chai tea which is the best chai tea around. This place has the best Indian food in Santa Barbara! They also have very good combination dinners, where you can pick from a selection of dishes. Sometimes I also get the to go box from the lunch buffet and that is well worth the money. The only negative thing I have to say is that although the customer service is usually efficient, sometimes they can be nitpicky about certain things.

I think this is my favorite restaurant in the world. Admittedly, part of the reason for that is sentimental. I've been coming here since I was about 10 years old. The mere thought of the place puts me in a good mood. But it's not JUST sentimental. The food is awesome. I try to come here when I'm particularly hungry so I can really stuff myself. It's always a delight. The chicken makhani and lamb korma are my favorites, and if you add the tasty peshwari naan, it's flavor heaven. The food at Flavor of India hits the bull's-eye of my tastes. On top of that, it's nice because it's a real local place. The staff always greet me when they see me and say "nice to see you again". From time to time they give me a free rice pudding. The place is filled with locals who return time and time again. So yeah, check it out. My favorite restaurant in the world.

Mmmmm Flavor of India. I love this place. I have been coming here for years, but recently my boyfriend got this crazy idea to make a kind of burrito out of a few of the dishes. I scoffed at first, afraid that the staff would give us dirty looks for disgracing their cuisine, but then I tried the thing and I couldn't deny the amazingness of it. If you want to be part of our South Asian meets Mexican foodie club, here's what you do: Step One Order the following: Tandoori Chicken (spicy), Pilao Rice, Navratan Korma, a few orders of Garlic Naan. Step Two Remove chicken meat from bone. Step Three Place chicken on top of a piece of garlic naan (treat it as if it were a tortilla) Step Four Spoon some rice on top of the chicken Step Five Spoon some Navratan Korma on top of the chicken and rice Step Six Fold, pick up, and enjoy!!

LOL......it was sooooo funny comeing in to this indian buffet.....I must have gone 4 times to get more food...it was soooooo! good man!..lol....the chicken curry was good, naan "bread" is warm, ant the chicken korma is good and the chicken tikka and the masala is to die for....and there mango shake is yummy........

I went to eat at Flavor of India when my brother and cousin came up to visit me for dinner. The food wasn't bad at all. Sure, I've had better, but I've also had plenty that were worse and this once places above average. We ordered the chicken tikka masala along with another curry (the name escapes me at the moment), tandoori chicken, and some naan and rice. The food tasted good and was agreeable with everyone, although I expected more spice when I ordered medium for the curries and spicy for the chicken. The service was great as well. Not once did we have to ask for water or wait for the waiter to arrive to help us out, and they were very helpful on the foods as well. The only problem that I have is that the price seems a bit pricey, although this might just be a Santa Barbaran thing... The lunch buffet might be the better deal.

We ate here for dinner last November and found it a bit pricey and unremarkable. Portions were smaller than I was expecting. It was good, but nothing to write home about. From what I've read in other reviews, looks like we should have come for the lunch buffet!

It's buffet style and has the staples of an Indian diet. My hubby enjoys it. The chicken curry is awesome. going back soon!!

Don't know how this place is ranked so high on everyone's list. Honestly how can you rank a place five stars when they serve your meal in metal plates? Is the metal plate suppose to bring out the taste, does the alloy react well to Indian spices? Honestly I felt I was in the pen (hard times at sing sing) or back in elementary school. Please if you think this food is good find yourself an Indian friend. I've tasted better Indian food made by a German. The pilao rice is not cooked properly, the tandori chicken is dry and lacks favour, and even the curries are bland. Oh and worst of all the raita yogurt was water down. The only good thing is the naan, which I promptly stuffed my face with as you should if you ever get sucked into eating at this place. If you don't know any better - Enjoy! :D

I'm reviewing the lunch buffet which at $7.95 for all you can eat is an absolute smasher. Food is great no complaints at all and you get a choice of 3 veggie dishes, two proteins, rice, salad and desert plus as much naan or garlic naan as you want. Might be the best lunch deal in town. Staff is super friendly and the chef is friendly too when he comes out to refill the buffet he's always smiling and cool. The food is solid and the garlic naan is the best I've had with tons of garlic on it. 11-3pm get your Flavor of India on!

Very flavorful and tasty Indian food! They also cater very well to people that cannot muster the strength for spicy food. Thy always tend to make they curries and sauces without much heat, adding more on request with order. I generally get medium spice which is nice by you don't sweat your ass off while enjoying your dinner. One thing I am always impressed by I how friendly they service is and they always remember my friends, family and I even if there are long stretches between out visits. Oh and their with the chutney are awesome

I was in Santa Barbara for the last few days on vacation and decided to give this place a shot after reading reviews. I must say that I was pleased for the most part. I enjoyed how they had meal options w/A platter that had 3 different items on it(which allowed for tasting multiple entrees). I feel that this is always a great attraction to the consumer(so we can enjoy different flavors/spices). Their Chana masala(spicy) was great, the Saag o Paneer was good, and Daal was okay. The naan was delicious, and samosa tasty. Fresh Chutneys that went along with that never hurts too. Compared to other places I would say that this is affordable and good food so I left happy. Thank you! :)

I have eaten at Flavor of India many times. I don't now why it took me so long to write a review but anyway, it is by far the BEST Indian food in Santa Barbara! Everything always tastes delicious and fresh. When you order certain dishes they ask you how spicy you would like it. This is good because my boyfriend like his lamb vindaloo very spicy and me not so much. The dinner combinations are a good way to go if you want variety and the lunch buffet is good as well. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I love this place.

I went for the lunch buffet and I thought... Muh. I've experienced better. Service is good and friendly. The place is clean. The buffet is small, there are not many choices, and not made for high traffic. I could imagine standing in line forever if it were busy. The chicken tikka masala is pretty good and all the other dishes were decent. It's good, but I wouldn't drive all the way out to it when Spice Ave is so much closer and seems to have more choices.

This is the first place I ever had Indian cuisine, and it got me hooked! We ordered the vegetable samosas, saag paneer, daal makhani, several types of naan, and I don't remember what else, but it was all good! The staff is wonderful and very friendly & attentive. They even gave us complimentary mango kulfi (their mango pistachio ice cream) when we finished our meal, which was a big plus as it was delicious! I'd be happy to return.

This place certainly does not serve authentic Indian food. Their Biryani was pathetic - looked and tasted more like South Indian Sambar rice than like Biryani. Being from Hyderabad where I am used to tasting outstanding Biryani, I could hardly get two spoofuls in my mouth before discarding the whole thing. The roti, naan and curries tasted just as bad. Find some other restaurant if you want to eat authentic Indian food. I will not recommend this place to anyone I know. If you want a great ambience with really bad food, this is the place to be.

Pleasant dining experiences. I got a mango lassi and dove into the lunch buffet. The food is pretty satisfying, esp. for the price. Next time I go, I'd want to try a few things off the menu, but the naan/roti, and the buffet's selected curries and daals are already addictive and yummy. The staff is friendly and eager to please. The decor is comfy and pretty clean. If I want Indian food in Santa Barbara, I will probably come here. There are some other restaurants downtown, but this location is a bit better because you can actually find a parking space closeby.

This is the first place I ever had Indian food. I owe you one, Flavor of India. I am glad that I experienced your Indian Flavor. One time they remembered my regular order and they were like "Vegetarian combination for you!" and I got embarrassed. I imagined that all the waiters were huddled in the back referring to me as "Vegetarian Combination" and talking about my personal life. "Vegetarian Combination needs to find a nice man, maybe a doctor, and settle down! Vegetarian Combination should ask for a raise from her no-good boss!" But maybe that's just my hangup.

This is the best Indian food I have ever had in my life and my fiance' agrees. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala and he had the Lamb Curry. The sauces were amazing and the atmosphere of the restaurant was beautiful with authentic statues, tapestries and live plants. The service was fantastic, friendly, and helpful. The portion sizes were great for the price and warmed up as a really good dinner the following evening.

Great service and tasty chicken tikka masala! The servers are really attentive. But, like all Indian restaurants, Flavor of India will make you smell like India until you bathe.

Love the garlic naan & chicken marsala (especially dipping the naan in the red sauce). There is also a green spicy sauce on the table that is really good with the naan. The tandoori chicken is a little dry for me.

Great, cheap buffet, and excellent service which seems to be difficult for buffet places. They kept bringing the naan and drinks without hesitation, i love that! Best Indian in SB, id say.

So, I had only indian food a few times the first time I went here, but I could tell right away this place sucked. We stood for ten minutes at the door before they acknowledged us, then told us they weren't open yet to come back in 20 minutes. According to the sign on the window they were supposed to be open, but we let it slide, and go get drinks down the street and come back. It was icky. Just below the quality of what you would expect for Indian fast food and this was supposed to be a semi-decent sit down joint. Their next fuck up, which is one I don't forgive, is that they don't clean well enough in between food items they cook, so if they cook a veggie meal after a meat meal, there's residue and I get sick. Only shitty chinese food places and fast food burgers can get away with doing this because that's what people expect, but when I come to an Indian place, I don't want to get sick afterwards. bleh!

Went here for dinner for 4. The dishes we got were: Onion Bhaji Veggie Samosas Saag Paneer Chicken Makhani Veggie curry of some kind Lamb Vindaloo or Korma - don't remember Garlic and regular naan All were very tasty and the portions were generous by Indian food standards. I was particularly impressed by the garlic naan. We also had some funny beers: Old Monk 10000 Super Beer! And I think mine had 'karma' in the name. We had an enjoyable time. :)

Honest Indian Food in Santa Barbara--of all places! While erring on the pricey side, Flavor's generous portions and chai refills are worth returning for, if Santa Barbara's on my destination list again.

Get the lamb korma!!!! I know that is more of a food recommendation but it was so darn good! Flavor of India is the best of the Indian restaurants in town. Friendly staff and quick service, even when it is busy. The somosas are great, good teas, chicken and lamb tikka masala... all delicious.

Favorite Indian restaurant, hands down. Every time I come to Santa Barbara I have to stop in here. I love their Shrimp Korma, I love their Chai tea and nothing beats fresh baked Naan bread. Those who tell you that Spice Avenue is better don't know what they're talking about, Spice Avenue is less fresh, more spicy and more likely to cause you to regret your meal later. I have never gotten a stomach ache after Flavor of India, and I have eaten there literally hundreds of times. The reason for this is that it is clean, the food is fresh, and they do not go crazy with their seasoning, you can always ask for extra chili powder and make yours hot, but for the people who don't like spicy, this place actually listens to you if you order a curry mild. Absolutely wonderful place to eat, I wish I could find an Indian restaurant to compare to it in Orange County where I now live. :( I miss Flavor of India!

Wonderful Indian food on upper State Street. the food is fabulous! MUST GET: Chicken Tikka and the Chicken Tikka Masala, the sauce is amazing. As well as samosas for sharing. Good Service, and a fun place to eat!

This review is not for the lunch buffet but rather is for dinner. I used to be a regular monthly visitor when I lived in Santa Barbara. With the exception of a two-month period several years ago when I assume the head chef was on break, the food was always consistent and delicious. I love their meat and vegetable samosas, their Lamb Saag combination plate, and their vegetable biryani. Excellent service and any time I brought a new person they would give me free rice pudding for dessert!

Caveats to the low rating... #1 - Haven't eaten there in over 6 years. Possible caveat rebuttal - are they the same owners as back in the beforetimes? #2 - Not a lemonjelly-ish fine food conneisseur PCR - I know me a little something about Indian food #3 - I just wanted to make a list of three No rebuttal Anyhow, I will pull the Indian card and say that *when* I did eat there, the food was meh compared to Indian places up north or some in LA or of course with the family. Like many Indian places in whitebread places like SB, they try their best to make non-Indians feel uber-exotic for coming to an Indian restaurant with a too varied menu and then oversalt the food to what they think most Amricans would like. The service seemed so so, and I got the usual Indian to Indian staredown, in this case a little bit less than friendly but that's fine. I craved Indian food back in the day, so I would sometimes get my fix from FOI and pretend it was better. At least it was not overpriced. So I woulda given it two stars for food (three stars is average people, not bad), BUT... when I saw two of the three largest cockroaches I have ever seen on the carpet when i came in for a to-go order, I U-turned and never looked back. Yes, this kinda thing happens but I don't need to see it. Take the caveats into consideration, since 6+ years is a long time and I have no idea if there is new ownership and possibly new attitudes. If you crave Indian food and live in SB, either head north or south, or go downtown for the one solid Indian food option in town at Spice Avenue (though I haven't tried the Isla Vista naan place). It's not astounding but it works.

My hubby and I ate here for our first meal in Santa Barbara... wow, YUMMY is all I can say. We shared the Chicken Tikka Masala... and I have to say this was the best dish I have had at an Indian resturant and I am a big consumer of Indian foods! LOL =) My hubby also had the naan and rice which both he gobbled in their entirety.... the sauce was fabulous on the rice he said and the staff was very friendly and accomodating!

For the price, 8.95, and that is the price I think as of 3 years ago, before it used to be 7.95 back in 2003-2005ish. But listen, for the PRICE, its worth it. The Buffet offers 2 rice options, 4 vegys, and2 or 3 meats, rice pudding, and unlimited naan. The food tastes great, I go there whenever I have an indian craving. I've been to Naan stop in IV, quality is ok. Taj in dt sb, i would say great food for the price as well. But flavor of india is a very homestyle and restaurant, quality ingerdients, value eatery. They know what they are doing.

Most definitely the most authentic Indian food available in the area! Although the price of the cuisine might be a bit more than expected to the casual diner looking for a moderately priced meal, the very obviously regional ambiance and the prompt and friendly service of wait staff such as James more than compensate for the jump in the bill. The menu is both varied and delicious, the seating arrangement is appropriate for parties large or small and it is highly likely that you will be hankering to return for the "flavors" on the menu that you forgot to eat your first time around!

My husband and I have been going to this restaurant for years...it is the best Indian restaurant in Santa Barbara County, by far. We have a favorite dish we eat, Lamb Botti Kabob. Tandori Lamb served on a sizzling hot plate with onions and green peppers. We get it with Saag paneer, (creamed spinach with cheese), and garlic naan. Wow! The food is consistently excellent, the service is also consistently excellent, and we love the chai tea they keep flowing.

I ordered the basic chicken tikka , garlic naan, and veggie samosas. The food was eh. I was disappointed by my meal, as I had heard that this was the best place for Indian in Santa Barbara. Not so much.

I would have to thank my friend's GPS for finding this place for us. My friend and I split veggy samosas, vegetable curry, and a combination plate of the chicken tikka masala.. let me just say that we had more than enough. The samosa wasn't too greasy and with the spicy mint sauce it was the prefect combination. I wish I could have taken that sauce home! Veggy curry and the combination plate was delicious... plus the plate came with matar panner, daai, pilao rice, and naan. On top of the great tasting food, the service was quick and attentive. I will be returning the next time I'm in santa barbara and craving india food.

Ate here for the first time last week. Tried the Chicken Korma and the Saag Paneer. The food was good; not to die for, but far better than most (Seattle still has the most flavorful, cheapest Indian food ever though). The service was OK. The guy at the front counter did not seem inclined to stop his personal call long enough to seat us, so we took menus and found our own seats. However, the other waitstaff were attentive. The price is a bit heftier that I'm used to, in part because of the a-la-carte ordering. The portions are fairly generous though. Will be back.

When a restaurant represents itself as a flavor of a landmass as large, diverse and heavily populated as India, you know that it is almost a natural compulsion that one must at least once make an attempt to soak up that flavor. It is under this presumption and compulsion that my peeps (yeah I know, first and probably the last time I'll ever use this term) were drawn to this restaurant- much like flies drawn to sweets or to their impending doom by an effervescent light/heat lamp. Having been lured here for lunch, l decided to soak up as much of the flavor as possible by getting the buffet, while the rest of the ahh.. peeps (ok definitely last time) got the curry shrimp, eggplant, and some sort of special naan bread whose name presently escapes me. All of this were, of course, accompanied by the naan as is the case with most, if not all, Indian dishes. The neutral: the service was rather satisfactory as it was neither outstanding nor "insitting" or whatever the opposite of outstanding is.. The good: the naan bread was definitely the hit of the day as it was hot, somewhat crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The special nann with meat contained therein was also very well-received as it was almost a thin version of the chinese green onion bread. The biryani rice, and tamarind sauce were also very appealing and indeed worth at least trying. The bad: the buffet really wasn't really much of a buffet as while it was all you can eat, it was all you can eat limited to approximately 6-8 dishes with salad and yogurt being 2 of the dishes. Moreover, the buffet had increased in price recently; while not totally unexpected due to the rise in energy costs, it was still somewhat of a downer or a lesser in this case- for my wallet. The other dishes chicken tandoori, tikka masala, curry chicken were all adequate; but the reason that they are in the "the bad" section is the meat were not tender but were for the most part overcooked; I find this to be true of all Indian food I've tried so far- although I've not had a lot of Indian food. (I probably need to go to Little Bombay for the good stuff) Moreover, with exception of salad itself, all of the other dishes were lacking in greens. I've come to realize when they say "curry shrimp", they mean just that- curry and shrimp. The ugly: the sight of my wallet since that meant I was picking up the check :-(. The end: All in all, not a bad culinary experience, although I must say that if this is the flavor of India, then India is in need a little more seasoning. 2.7 stars for the food, rounded up to 3.

This is the best Indian restaurant I've ever been to. The service is very good, and the people who work there are incredibly nice. After coming there 3 or 4 times a month in groups with up to 15 people for their buffet, they got used to our apologetic loudness and still give us free rice pudding if we show up after buffet hours to order entrees. The spices are PERFECT and the Aloo Gobi is dangerously tasty. If this place is closed, I'd suggest the All India Cafe on State Street. If you're looking for good food comparable to that, you should jump in a car and get Thai at Your Place or some seafood on the wharf.

Flavor of India is not too hard to find - located around the La Cumbre Mall, off of State Street, they don't have too much parking, but it is worth it. The lunch buffet here is $8, with unlimited delicious naan, and amazing curry. The curry here is a bit creamier with less spice than usual, but it is delicious nonetheless. The service they provide is great - your water glass is never empty, and they do a great job of making the atmosphere comfortable and homey. Definitely worth a visit! When you're finished, if you're feeling like some coffee, hop across the street for a latte at the Coffee Bean!

Today we were heading over to Nan-Stop in IV and it was closed! I died a little on the inside. We then decided to try this place and it was great. I only spent 11 dollars and I had hot tea, an Indian Buffet (with Korma), and Nan. All was all-you-can-have. I very much enjoyed this place. The food tasted homemade which is not a bad thing. I do recommend this place to true Indian food lovers. It has parking in the back. Also the waiters were very attentive.

I'm quite surprised with all the 5 star ratings this place has received. I'm thinking most have not tried great Indian before. The food is just so-so at best at the flatware is horrible.

I used to think it was good, but not anymore! Their dishes are too watery for my taste. It definitely is not spicy enough, and they raised their lunch buffet price by a dollar. For the same price, Spice Avenue may be a better choice.

I have been to every indian restaurant from Santa Barbara to Camarillo. Flavor of india has the best service and best tasting Indian food. I go at least once a month. The waiter knows my name and he even remembers our order!! Love it!!!

I can't comment on the buffet as I order off the menu (I like mine spicy). Their tikka masala is amazing. Their naan is great and they are always attentive and friendly. I can't fault them for the lack of parking but it is always an issue.

awesome food! and their lunch buffet is cheap....and i know you are thinking of some rank vegas hotel when i say buffet..but it's really good! I would definito recommend!

Best F****** Restaurant in Santa Barbara by far. Spice Avenue doesn't even come close to the quality of food and hospitality of FoI. We went there once a week for five years and we miss it dearly since we moved away. The strongest possible recommendation!

I live in the Bay Area now, and I dream of this place. This is the best Indian Food I've ever eaten. The Chicken Tikka Masala is to die for! Their Saag Paneer is also awesome. Their lunch and dinner combos are great too. I haven't had anything I didn't like. The lunch buffet often left me unable to move (I couldn't help myself)... I need to make a trip back down to SB.... (be warned.. they do not kid around with the spicyness of their food (it can be loike FIRE) - the mild is geat though)

It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't that good. Everything was kind of bland and boring. Ras malai was kind of frozen and flavorless. The best part of the meal was the veggie samosas, but everything else needs to be improved.

Words to the wise: Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan, Vegetable Samosa, Glass of Chablis for the Lady, and you are GOOD TO GO.

The best Indian Restaurant in Santa Barbara. Their Shahi paneer is a must have !! If you have not tried it before remember to order it the next time. Good food and good service.

You can't go wrong with Indian buffet. This was the first place I ever tried Indian food at, and I still remember the day. We tried the buffet, which is always nice for a newbie. The food was amazing. The service friendly. The restaurant's clean. Parking was simple especially since you're a little north on State, a ways away from downtown. Excellent food. I'm glad to see this place is still going strong. The complete dinners were also good too if you missed the buffet.

decent food and cheap. good enough for me! but again, where can i get a good dosa!? i wish their daal was a bit better, but i am happy enough with it.

other indian places may be nicer in decor and variety, but i come here for their great just-made crispy 'n warm naan bread. priceless (and free!). lunch buffet is good ($7.95). nice people working here.

While the food and atmosphere are pretty good at this place, its service seems fake and the food is overpriced. I would recommend going to the buffet to save some (read: alot of) dough, but its selection is pretty pathetic considering the place calls itself the 'flavor of India.' I took off half a star alone for the fact that a soda or iced tea costs 3 bucks.

India is the birth place of Chicken Tikka Masala and Curries. Indian foods are prepared with a blend of finely mixed spices quite popular across the region. The spices develop the rich taste in Indian food enough to boggle your mind. The ever-increasing fan base of Indian food around the New York city is steadily increasing because of the large number of Indians who traveled to the land of dreams. The Indians also brought their very own vibrant, colorful, and aromatic authentic dishes for the people in the West. While most of the Indian population is Vegetarian, Indian food is great for people who are looking for vegan or vegetarian food option. If you are a Meat lover, don't get disappointed yet. Indian food also boasts of some popular non-vegetarian dishes too. Few examples are the famous Butter Chicken, Mutton Biryani and Tandoori Chicken are enough to satisfy your taste buds.
Indian food has gained reputation all over the world especially in the United States. You can find many places serving the appetizing Indian food across all major cities in the US. India is a diverse country with different food culture originated from different parts of the country. While the Northern region boasts tandoori dishes and korma offering royal taste, the Western Ghats offers sea foods that is made in naturally sweet tender coconut milk. The South Indian food servers a quality of different dishes made from rice accompanied with spicy chutneys, curries and famous sambhar. Also, the Indian sweets are a delight to relish. If you ever want to have a burst of sugar syrup in mouth, don't forget to try few Bengali Sweets. Be it spicy, tangy, or sweet flavor, you can find everything in the Indian cuisine. Be assured that the melody of spices will surely bring delight to you.

(5)Indie C.

(1)Don D.
(4)Ryan G.
(5)Avinash D.
Tasty Indian food... Pretty good atmosphere..
(5)Wes C.
Beef Naan = 5 Fried Onion Rings = 5 Chicken Tikka Masala = 5 (bf loved it) Lamb Korma = 4.5 (server recommended it to me, said it was fantastic and that i would enjoy it more than the curries) Service = 5 Overall = 4.5 wish we had tried the samosas... next time!
(4)Jill W.
(5)Soph S.
great place, awesome food. Here a little waring when you ask for spicy, they give you spicy! oh its bomb
(5)Alissa W.
Huge fan!
(5)Hanu M.
(4)Jeff M.
(5)Anusha B.
Very authentic and tasty Indian food. Rated like home cooked meal. The food was flavorful as promised without the excessive use of chillies.
(5)David H.
Their Lunch buffet is outstanding for the price. I wish I knew about this sooner!
(4)Youri Y.
(4)Wyatt T.
(5)Simran K.
(4)Pradnya N.
(1)Katie D.
(5)Chris O.
They have a decent lunch buffet here with all the usuals. They also have a nice patio that is dog friendly. Great service too, we came in 10 mins before lunch was over and they made sure we had plenty of good food before the kitchen closed.
(5)Mel Q.
Love this place! The food was amazing and the staff was attentive. We were visiting SB but we will go back there again in a heartbeat.
(5)Kaira M.
(4)Annie C.
(2)Jonny T.
(3)Marsha P.
Wow! I was happy to find this place. The eggplant was nice and spicy. The sauce for the chicken korma was great except the chicken was a tad on the dry side. It seemed to be mostly white meat which I'm not a big fan of anyway. Service was great. Would definitely go back and try some other dishes.
(4)Zoe L.
(5)Lauren H.
Only thing I was sad about was that there was no Aloo Mutter on the menu :(
(5)Rachael C.
Very few words for this place... BEST chicken tickka masala EVER!!
(5)Sam B.
I have no appreciation for what is authentic Indian food or anything like that, but to my Amercan tastes, this place was really good. My date also got some smoothie thing that was absolutely delicious.
(4)Amrit K.
(5)Paula T.
(5)Marica P.
(1)Justin F.
(4)S H.
(5)Michael P.
This place is EPIC!!! The $9.95 lunch buffet is the only way to go! The food quality and service are fantastic! It has a small cozy feel, but always has plenty of tables available. I particularly love the chicken tikka masala and rice pudding. Enjoy!
(4)Sheryl S.
I saw some of the negative reviews on here, but I have to say I love the place! We had a fabulous dinner there the other night with ample portions, delicious flavor and courteous attentive service. I will return.
(4)J P.
Sophia W. made us get more Indian food our last day in S.B.---what more to celebrate our pathetic lives other than more binge eating?
(4)Jamey W.
I like their lunch buffet Monday-Saturday - All you can eat Dal Nan Raita Rice Vegetables Saag + Chicken if you eat meat
(4)Jackie V.
I tried the bengan bartha, I was not that pleased.. Also I believe the hours are wrong on yelp, they close at 9:30 pm. The garlic naan had tooo much garlic on it.. And I think it was really pricey. My friends that went with me felt that the food is decent.
(3)Evan G.
The sauces aren't really that great and the chicken and vegetables don't mix well. Also the chai tea is severely watered down. I've had waaay better chicken makani and palak paneer.
(2)Nish S.
(2)Elizabeth R.
MMM.
(5)Mrjustice ..
Very good Indian food, good portions, good service, good value. Forget about the overpriced tourist infested alternatives downtown; and come here if you have a taste for Indian. Recommended.
(4)Jack M.
(5)Mike P.

(5)Sarah B.
(4)Lynsay B.

(3)N H.
I tried the lunch buffet here. I was expecting a lot better because of all the good reviews, but the chicken tikka was really dry and the naan somewhat burnt in spots. The place was bustling tho, with almost every table taken. The servers were really attentive, offering more naan even tho we still had some on the table.
(3)Josh M.
The food isn't bad, it just isn't all that and a bag of chips, is what i'm saying. I much prefer Spice avenue downtown where you can people watch and the food is great.
(3)Eryn K.

(2)Anjana S.
The tandoori paneer tasted awful. All of the dishes tasted the same. The food was like a mish mash of flavors.
(1)Stella B.
(4)Brenda R.
This was my first try at Indian food and I might say it was mighty good. I had the Chicken Tikka Misala. My lover had the Lamb Curry. Both quite good. I would opt out of the big platter combos and go straight for their main dishes. I didn't like the lentils.
(4)Ankur A.
ok food. but terrible service for buffet. asked for extra naan. the waiter did not show up. ask for water he said yes and water was in front of him, but never returned to our table. before we could finish, the cheque was on our table. Felt unwelcomed.
(2)Olivia H.
(5)David L.

Bad bad food !

(2)J C.
(3)Hilary A.
(5)N B.
We had a nice dinner here. Great service even thought the place was packed. Reasonable prices, good food. I'd go again for sure!
(5)Jewel A.
(5)Jeane C.
i've only been to a few indian restaurants, but none have impressed me like flavor of india in santa barbara! my friends took me there when i went up to visit them for the first time, and i instantly fell in love... with their traditional metal serving trays! the food was awesome too, of course, perfectly proportioned. i get something different every time and always from their combination section: vegetarian delight (the cauliflower dish is very delicious), chicken tandoori, chicken curry, and chicken tiki masala. i go for the combination dinners because i'm unfamiliar with indian dishes, so i feel like they've chosen everything for me already! i tried their rice pudding and it was ok. can't say it was memorable, though it's been about 2 years ago since. on my most recent trips, my friend introduced me to mango lassi and i fell in love. the rest, as they say, is history.
(5)Bob S.
I come here for the lunch buffet probably once a week. For anybody intimidated by Indian food because of the spicy flavors, don't worry. The food here is fantastic and affordable. Very flavorful, just not spicy.
(4)Fred G.
Great buffet chicken dishes fresh, yogurt dressing light and tasty good rice pudding .lentils very good
(3)Burt B.
had it at home after picking up on 4th of july. I mean what else says America than some chicken Tika? food was great.. i like it alot. Its not like walking on pioneer in Artesia, but its great.
(4)Jen C.
(3)Kenny H.
I was never impressed with this place in years past, then I ate here last week and it made me super sick. No thanks.
(1)Chrissy L.
(4)Brendan B.
(5)Daniel R.
Best Indian food ever!
(5)angie b.
(5)Alvina J.
(5)Abraham P.
(3)Aly K.
Okay...let me just say...last night I tried the Chicken Makhani. FAN-freakin-TASTIC! Get it!!!! :) Also, Meat Samosa appetizer was great!
(5)M M.
We ate here for dinner last November and found it a bit pricey and unremarkable. Portions were smaller than I was expecting. It was good, but nothing to write home about. From what I've read in other reviews, looks like we should have come for the lunch buffet!
(3)Isa K.
It's buffet style and has the staples of an Indian diet. My hubby enjoys it. The chicken curry is awesome. going back soon!!
(4)Robert M.
(2)Micah P.
(4)Drew T.
(4)Ross V.
Thank you! :)
(4)Carolyn C.
Excellent for dinner. Not so good for lunch. Servings could be a little larger.
(4)Hilary D.
Best saag in Santa Barbara. By far my favorite lunch buffet!
(5)B W.
Good times here. :)
(3)Karalina M.
(5)Huan V.
(2)kelly r.
Tasty! Enjoyed several vegetarian dishes....small servings (we took takeout), but very good. Restaurant was packed.
(4)Stefanie H.
(4)Sathya P.
(1)Kay N.
(4)Shoshanna L.
(4)Loriana H.
(5)K J.
Delicious food, great service and decent pricing if you go during the buffet. Best Indian food in town!
(5)K C.
Great service and tasty chicken tikka masala! The servers are really attentive. But, like all Indian restaurants, Flavor of India will make you smell like India until you bathe.
(4)Elaine S.
Love the garlic naan & chicken marsala (especially dipping the naan in the red sauce). There is also a green spicy sauce on the table that is really good with the naan. The tandoori chicken is a little dry for me.
(4)Chris C.
I love flavors of India! The staff is extremely friendly and the food is always delicious. The saag paneer is delicious and as everyone else has said the naan is awesome!
(5)Jennifer C.
Great, cheap buffet, and excellent service which seems to be difficult for buffet places. They kept bringing the naan and drinks without hesitation, i love that! Best Indian in SB, id say.
(5)Josh Z.
Only shitty chinese food places and fast food burgers can get away with doing this because that's what people expect, but when I come to an Indian place, I don't want to get sick afterwards. bleh!
(1)Emily M.
(4)Rune H.
Honest Indian Food in Santa Barbara--of all places! While erring on the pricey side, Flavor's generous portions and chai refills are worth returning for, if Santa Barbara's on my destination list again.
(4)Jenn K.
(4)C B.
Best Indian food I've ever had. Extremely warm and friendly staff. My favorite restaurant of all time.
(5)Fj G.
great lunch spot, food was good and service was great, buffet was one of the best in SB for Indian.a little cramped and parking is a pain but food is worth it,,, enjoy
(4)Miss J.
(5)Rick F.
Wonderful Indian food on upper State Street. the food is fabulous! MUST GET: Chicken Tikka and the Chicken Tikka Masala, the sauce is amazing. As well as samosas for sharing. Good Service, and a fun place to eat!
(4)Jonathan S.

Worst food ever had. We ordered karaji chicken it's full of garlic. Veg biryani very pasty and shrimp masala below average. I wish I didn't waste my $50 :(((.

Excellent butter chicken and chicken khabob (forgot the real name of these dishes). Friendly staff.

My favorite Indian place in Santa Barbara.

(2)Camille T.

Love it!!!
(5)Sarah F.

(5)John V.

Great food and great service for a very moderate price

You can't go wrong with Indian buffet. This was the first place I ever tried Indian food at, and I still remember the day. We tried the buffet, which is always nice for a newbie. The food was amazing. The service friendly. The restaurant's clean. Parking was simple especially since you're a little north on State, a ways away from downtown. Excellent food. I'm glad to see this place is still going strong. The complete dinners were also good too if you missed the buffet.

decent food and cheap. good enough for me! but again, where can i get a good dosa!? i wish their daal was a bit better, but i am happy enough with it.
(4)hong h.
other indian places may be nicer in decor and variety, but i come here for their great just-made crispy 'n warm naan bread. priceless (and free!). lunch buffet is good ($7.95). nice people working here.
(4)David M.
